Judge Jane Eakin, Circuit Judge for the Second Judicial District, Rawlins, Wyoming, will retire from the court effective February 16th. Judge Eakin has served the citizens of this state as a circuit court judge with distinction for over 13 years. She was appointed to the bench in 2004 by Governor Dave Freudenthal to replace Judge Wade Waldrip, who he named to the district court bench.
Prior to her appointment to the circuit court bench, Judge Eakin was a Senior Public Defender in Laramie, Wyoming for twelve years and supervised the offices in Albany and Carbon Counties. She received her law degree from the University of Wyoming in 1992. Judge Eakin served on the Uniform Bail & Forfeiture Committee for many years. She also served as a member of the Select Committee to Review the Code of Judicial Conduct.
Judge Eakin is a supporting member of the Black Dog Animal Rescue in Cheyenne and contributes readily to other animal and nature conservancy organizations. She has volunteered at the Rawlins Animal Shelter cleaning cages, and when the shelter was short staffed, she devoted time on the weekends to help care for the animals.
When asked to comment on her tenure as circuit court judge, she said, “It has been a remarkable experience and I am truly honored to have served in this capacity. I shall sincerely miss my fellow judges, attorneys and my wonderful clerks, as well as the many great people I have been so fortunate to have worked with, including game wardens, highway patrol officers and other members of law enforcement.”
